Artist Statement
For many artists, animals are a metaphor. There’s this long line of men who use paintings of bulls and rhinos to talk about strength, turn their power fantasies into spectacles, and cling to the idea of nature as a primal force they can break and own. I paint chickens thinking about how fluffy they are. They don’t represent anything. They exist. I want to see them and celebrate them.

As a painter and cartoonist, Zach Mason has presented work at shows such as Small Press Expo (SPX), Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE), and Comic Arts Brooklyn (CAB) and galleries such as Maryland Art Place (MAP).
